The Ctrl key and the left side Alt key on the keyboard of my RT have
stopped working. I disassembled the keyboard, and cleaned the
switches, but that didn't help. Examining the PC board carefully,
there is one wire trace that is in common between the two failing
keys, and there is a spot on that wire trace that looks like an
original manufacturing defect, which may have finally corroded open.
Probably the best way to repair this problem is to swap this keyboard
for a working one and return this one for repair or replacement.
The machine is located in my office at 545 Tech Square, room NE43-513;
details of its identity are below. If I am not in, my secretary in
room 523, or Prof. Corbato's secretary in 515, can let someone in.
My telephone is 3-6016, my secretary (Gayle Sherman) is at 3-6583.
Priority: moderately high. I use the machine every day and neither
emacs nor X work very well without those two keys.
Thanks.
Jerry
