        I would like to follow up on the delayed email message which I
sent out on Monday, 8/7, but was not received by many of you for 3.5
days.  We have been able to confirm that there were problems with email
during that period which caused the delay.  Adjustments have been made
to hopefully eliminate the possibility of this happening in the future.

        A possibility for the cause that was looked at was the size of
the email list.  They have determined that the size, as it is now, should
not have been a problem.  However, they have recommended that we do not
let it grow much further.  I have been receiving many requests from
individuals in various departments to be added to the list.  It has
been recommended that rather than adding individuals, we should add
lists.  If any of you would like me to add your departmental
email list to the Plant-Notify email list, please let me know.  The
concerns that I have been receiving from individuals in your
departments making these requests is that you may not be available to
forward the information on to them right away when they need it.
Therefore, using departmental email lists will get my notices to them more
quickly and directly.  If you do not have a departmental email list or
have questions about the use of email or an email list, you may contact
MIT Information Systems Network Services group.  They can be reached
via the Network Services Help Desk at 253-4101.
