there was a loud electric noise and half the machines in this cluster
died.
every other machine -- all the odd numbered ones.
the even number ones seem to be fine and weren't affected but the
spark.
wait -- someone just tried to log in to an even number machine
and coulnd't so maybe it is more complex?
