Tardis, a RISC/6000 model 520 is not booting. When booted in
service mode without external media, it eventually comes to a code of
C99 (diagnostic programs finished) which is only displayed when no
system console is detected. However, it has a console that is
detected fine when booting off floppies.
In normal mode, it generally clears the LED display but
doesn't put anything on the monitor or come up on the net. At least
once, it has come up with flashing 8's; I wasn't able to record the
other cause codes.
I borrowed a copy of 2.4.3 diagnostics disks. They were
broken; they didn't boot on Tardis nor Panic (a perfectly functional
RISC/6000), and trying to recopy diagnostics onto these disks failed.
I was wondering if I could get someone to run diagnostics on
Tardis and try to determine if it is a hardware problem. If it isn't,
let me know and I'll work on it.
Please don't reinstall Tardis. Also, be aware that both the
RAM bootlist and the boot logical volume on the hard disk are probably
bogus.
