On second thought (and mostly on a day with fewer things going wrong), your
request does have merit.
Provided that you are extraordinarily careful to be in close proximity at all
times to the second machine, and that you place a sign on the second machine
saying that you'll relinquish it to anyone who needs its capabilities, you
have permission to use no more than two adjoining Athena workstations (even
SGIs) simultaneously in a public cluster that has many unused workstations in
it. You may do this until your thesis work is complete or until June 15,
whichever comes sooner. If a cluster begins to crowd up while you're working,
you will discontinue use of the second workstation. We reserve the right to
reverse this permission at any time for any reason.
Good luck!
