Mark Virtue and I have run into a problem that affects FrameMaker on SGIs-
if a given machine is running portmap instead of rpcbind, FrameMaker will
not be able to connect to the Frame license manager. (These daemons are
supposed to be equivalent but unfortunately they are not for FrameMaker).
It seems that some random number of machines in the field have portmap
running and the others have rpcbind. In order to convert a machine running
portmap to rpcbind, each such machine will have to be reinstalled from the
install server (Mark has just modified it to make it do the "right thing").
I have modified the FrameMaker startup script to look for a runnning portmap,
and print a message alerting users and telling them to report the name
and IP address of these machines to hotline- if you get Email to that effect
it should identify the machines that need reinstallation. You may get
multiple messages for the same machine if several users try the machine
before you can get around to reinstalling it.
If you have any other questions ask me or Mark.
