Oliver is a RS/6000 in the SIPB office (W20-557) that is extremely
unhappy. It has been serviced previously, and reportedly the floppy drive
was replaced. It would appear that the problem is not the floppy drive.
The symptoms are that the machine with randomly decide to halt.
It last halted with an error code of 180: Progress Indicator. Built-in
self-test checkstop logout in progress. After a minute or two, this
switched to 888 102 206 0c9. According to info, an unexpected system
halt occured during normal operation. Machine check due to uncorrectable
error correction code, and a dump started by the system did not complete.
The error log also shows:
8EA094FF 0507172395 T H sysplanar0 Checkstop
4A29D32A 0510162095 P H sysplanar0 Machine Check
8EA094FF 0507110895 T H sysplanar0 Checkstop
4A29D32A 0506151195 P H sysplanar0 Machine Check
(Sequence numbers 781, 465, 416, and 370 respectively)
errpt -a says that probable causes of the machine checks are Memory and
Memory Controller. This is consistent with the error code descibed above.
It's probably not the floppy drive.
