We had encountered a massive power failure at approx. 20:00 this evening.
The play by play action went as follows:
After evaluating the situation, and ruling out a direct network problem,
JJmorey and myself have headed for the BLDG. 66 area. The entire building was
found in just about absolute darkness. JJmorey and I have entered the 66-080
Athena cluster and powered off all hardware for protection in case power
returned quickly. I anwered Anne Salemme's page, and have decided to power
down all necessary hardware in the 66 machine room. I have also contacted
Jon, and Jeff at network services, and have asked their permission to power
down the 66 Gateway as well. I have disconnected the battery backup to the
keypad entry system for the 66-080 to prevent theft, and unwanted access.
I had teamed up with John Stowe (resident 2nd shift supervisor), and with the
rest of the electricians. What caused this blackout was 2 HIGH VOLTAGE
(13,000 VOLTS a piece CIRCUIT BREAKERS) that had tripped. At this point in
time, why these circuit breakers tripped is UNKNOWN. Power has returned approx.
1 hour later. I have put the entry keypad to 66-080 back in service, and have
powered up all hardware in the 66-080 cluster, and in the machine room.
Dave K. showed up to check the software of all hardware involved in the
machine room, and JJmorey and myself have maintained the 66-080 cluster.
We have lost, I believe just 1 hard disk in the public cluster. Machine room
looked good. We made out o.k. A service call has been placed for M66-080-20
I also believe that the network has returned to normal.
Thats the story folks!
