PS/2 Ethernet card

I know, I know, I complain too much.

I can't get either of two network implementations to work on the PS/2
in my cube (E40-358-annex, across from Peter's office); one of these
worked before the cubes got rearranged (and the PS/2 got dropped on
the floor while all the cables and cords were plugged in), but not
now. Both IP implementations appear to be able to listen to the wire,
but neither can make itself heard. One of the IP implementations
reports a "TDR error -- open cable" when starting up.

The Ethernet transceiver cable checks out okay -- the VAXstation 3100
in the office can talk with the rest of the network using it. It
appears to me that there are three possible explanations:

  o  The Ethernet card in the PS/2 is damaged;
  o Two IP implementations are defective; or
  o The operator is doing something stupid.

Of these, I prefer to believe the first alternative :-) .

I do not have diagnostics for the Ethernet card, so I can't report
what they say.
