Well, w20-575-107 was similarly afflicted. Craig was indeed correct,
and the problem was a user attaching 7.7tom (the ``athena'' locker,
sigh...):

athena /usr/athena XXXXX n

(username replaced w/ XXXXX; Craig sent mail to the user...)

(2)

Today, two users have come into the SIPB office to report that
after they've logged out of SGIs, the screen turns black and the
workstation doesn't respond. The first time, I went out and looked,
and the workstation indeed seemed stuck (the green light was on), but
no other responses. In retrospect, I suppose I should've tried
logging in and checked to see if the disk thrashed or
something... (having a console login'd be nice here so that you don't
have to make sure that your window has the focus without seeing the
mouse pointer...).

Anyway, I powered off and then powered on the machine. The former
seemed to take longer than I recall it taking, but perhaps that was
just subjective, or perhaps it's because public SGIs tend to have to flush
more stuff to disk than opus does??

The machine came up, and I asked the user to login and logout again,
and she did and the problem did not recurr. I didn't take the time
to try and investigate further...

Later, another user came in a described the same symptoms. Rather than
going out to examine it, I gave him instructions on how to reboot.
