Subject: VOICE MAIL SYSTEM UPGRADE

Friends:

On Saturday, March 25, the MIT voice processing system will be 
undergoing a major software upgrade.  We will be moving from the current 
software release 1.5 to release 4.0.  As a consequence of this work, the 
voice mail system will be unavailable for approximately twelve to 
fourteen hours, beginning at about 8:00AM.  During this time, callers 
trying to access voice mail will hear unanswered ringing.  This down 
time will also permit the replacement of a defective piece of hardware.  
Once the Octel field service technician has completed his work, the 
system will be rebooted and integration with the 5ESS will be restored; 
this will allow normal access to the MIT voice processing system.  

Because there are new and modified customer features, there will be 
updated documentation available.  Effective March 27, 1995 members of 
the general MIT community will be able to obtain the updated User's 
Guide to the MIT Voice Mail System by sending email to sendpubs@mit.edu 
or by calling 3-5150.  This information will be available shortly in the 
more familiar booklet form.  The MIT Voice Mail Quick Guide will also be 
published in the near future as well. This information, in OCTEL's 
generic format, is now available to Telecom staff; ask Robyn, Christien, 
Marian or me for the booklet.  

If you just want to know some general information about some of the new 
user features available with the new software, call 3-6377 and press 6 
for Release 4.0 feature descriptions.  This information is also 
available in the past two editions of the I/S NEWSLETTER.
