On the morning of Tuesday, December 27 at 12:01am, there will be a
three-hour outage of all of the SIPB machine room services, including:
* The SIPB AFS cell
* Usenet news from news.mit.edu
* The SIPB WWW server
* The "eve" and "msgs" discuss meetings, as well as many others
* The rtfm services
* The sipb.mit.edu ftp server
* The linux-athena and netbsd lockers
The sipb locker will continue to be accessible from the Athena AFS
cell.
This outage will allow us to reorganize the machines in the machine
room, plug them into more appropriate power circuits, rewire the SCSI
chain on one of our AFS servers, and alleviate the mess in the cabling
around the machines.
The actual outage time for any given service may be considerably
shorter than three hours, but that depends on how well things go.
