I found the behavior of the windows not appearing to be the case on
the machine "thumb", but I have not been able to reproduce the other
problems on any of the workstations. Belinda, do you remember which
other machine was behaving strangely and how I might reproduce the
other problems?

On thumb, if I run certain applications such as xterm and xmh, it
exits with an "Illegal Instruction" error. Other applications such
as emacs, xtechinfo and Mosaic appear to work fine. Rebooting the
machine does not fix the problem.

Okay, some more students just mentioned having more problems, with
software they need to run for their classwork. According to the
people I've talked to, the problems started around 5pm last night.
A person was in the middle of compiling a program for 6.035 (I think
it's the CLU language compiler) when it stopped compiling all of the
sudden. Other people started getting the "Illegal instruction" error
running Ez.

Note: I've said most of this already over a phone call to Hotline, but
am emailing to put what I've observed in writing.
