I don't know if I am mailing the right people with this concern. While
doing my laundry in the Random Hall basement, I noticed that a very VERY
shoddy job of installation was performed on the incoming fiber link to the
Specifically, there is about 9 inches of fiber which has been stripped of
its protective orange sheathing. The two very thin and very fragile wires
are then run through a small, sharp edged opening into the metal box which
contains the fiber->coax conversion hardware.
We are concerned that if someone accidentally snags the wire, it is going
to very easily break and cause a loss of network service for 18.243 subnet.
We would hope that some preemptive corrective maintenance can be performed
soon so that extensive surprise outages don't occur. Hope to hear from
someone on this soon.
Thanks for the time.
