I have visited Sreeram and here is what I found. I thought he had
a trashed /usr/vice/cache, but that wasn't the case. The filesystem
was ok. I don't know if he re-installed or what. I asked him when
the workstation crashes and he said only when an AFS fileserver goes
down that they are depending on for either there personal files or
maybe the system pack.
What happens at that point is they lose /afs. The usual error when
when no afs is present "aklog cannot stat(afs...etc). He would then reboot
the workstation and the /usr/vice/cache partition would be trashed.
I suggested the following workaround which we used when the rs6k's would
lose /afs.
mount atalanta:/afs /mnt
cp /mnt/athena/service/CellServDB /usr/vice/etc
shutdown -i6 -g 0 #Solaris shutdown.
I told Sreeram to let me know if this fixes his problem. When
I find out more info about this I will let you know. Thanks.
