Hi JJ. Well, have I got news for you! I modified the gateway info in
/etc/rc.net on menhaden to change the gateway from 128.128.0.1 to 128.128.28.1
(the gateway for that part of the subnet) and voila- menhaden booted with no
trouble. However, I suspect that this introduces a maintenance headache. In
the 2 weeks that menhaden has been down, there has been a software update,
which menhaden missed. Upon rebooting, an auto-update occurred and blew away
my rc.net mods (and possibly the rc.conf mods- I haven't checked that out yet
as I'm tired of waiting for net requests that I can't ^C out of to time out
during the reboot; the rc.net, at least, was replaced/overwritten). How can we
prevent this from happening without creating maintenance jobs for me or folks
up there? Ideally, the source from which menhaden would get its updates would
have the correct gateway info in it. Else, anytime there's new software or we
reload the local disk, we loose this info. Thanks.
