and that the problem of carrier being dropped by dialup
might be due to carrier coming on before modem at athena
end acknowledges callers' modem ... and that from lcs
i was having no trouble until just now a similar run of
random chars happened and i was dropped back to the
telnet prompt ... and then just as wierdly was automagically
brought back to the athena prompt ... all in a matter of
less than five seconds. guess i'm not going to spend too
much time trying to track down poor connections in the
rats' nests of phone wiring on four floors at home.
