The SIPB server machine CHARON.MIT.EDU has recently (in the past few minutes)
experienced a severe hardware problem (disk failure of some kind, probably).
Since it has just happened, we have no real idea when to expect the machine
to be back in service.
For now, the most obvious service outages are:
o Discuss: several discuss meetings, including new_meetings and eve (the
two meetings added by default on startup) will be unavailable.
o BITNET gateway: the programs bwrite and bfinger will not work, and people
on BITNET sites will not be able to contact MIT users via the gateway.
We'll let you know once we have more information; questions can be directed
to OLC or directly to SIPB (w20-557, 253-7788, sipb@mit.edu).
