Hello Mr. Burke,
You may kindly recall our conversation on phone earlier during the day. You had mentioned that the 85 MHz processor as opposed to 70 MHz as such would not pose any
problem, and that you
were waiting to finalize the situation. You had also mentioned that I would be responsible for
backing up all the data which will be under a different partition of the hard disk, i.e. over and
above the ones in the AFS system as such. In my previous e-mail, I had also mentioned that we
had also procured a product # X822A, which is essentially a 5.0 GB 4mm tape desktop backup
pack (purchased through MIT computer connection). My question is that, in order to do the
backups, will this DAT drive do the job directly. If not directly, then what software/hardware
interface do I need to get in the meantime in order to make the backups. I was told by the
MCC consultant, Mr. Jafar, while we were ordering our machine, that this DAT drive goes with
all kinds of SPARC 5 (70 or 85 MHz, color monitor or not). Given this scenario, I presume that
this DAT drive should still be o.k. for backups once Athenized. Your feedback regarding this
will be very helpful. We appreciate your very generous and prompt input to get our workstation
going.
Thanks once again.
Regards,
Sreeram.
