While I was at the Center for Advanced Engineering Study to swap the
posts on the anchor pads for a few sparc stations we'd installed, two
different sparc stations started having prolems.
caes-sun-3 would not deal with bitbucket properly. it was impossible
to obtain authentication to access bitbucket.
caes-sun-4 was unable to start X, and wouldn't allow any logins (reasons
unknown, perhaps involving someone severely hacking it. the root password
had been changed).
I ran solaris_reconf on caes-sun-3, checked the /etc/hosts (it was ok).
When fired up again it worked all right.
For caes-sun-4, as the root password was changed I was unable to enter
single user mode. I figured just reloading all system software was the
best plan of attack, and proceeded to do so. Note that this procedure is
much faster for athena 7.7 than athena 7.6. It worked correctly when reboot.
