I am concerned about my Sun SPARCclassic which replaced my DECSTATION
5000 a few months back. Since receiving the SUN as my private
workstation, anomalous things have started to occur.
1) The system coredumps from time to time when I log out.
I have fixed .logout so it writes a ps -e to a file
so I can see what processes lead to the coredump, but
of course, it hasn't happened since then. I have to
admit I don't know how to use a coredump to figure
out what it has to tell me. My memory is that all
I have running at logouts are iconified xterms and
one non-iconfied xterm, but I won't swear to it.
2) The hard drive will start chugging and working hard, even
when I'm not signed on.
I don't mean to be paranoid, but what could cause these things?
Should I be concerned or are these known bugs?
thanks,
