#3 was found with an out of order tends to freeze up note
i've log'd in and it was really slowww to do full login
had alot of following in usr/adm:

Also console had following:
10:29 afs: Lost contact with volume location server 18.181.0.22 in cell sipb.mit.edu
10:29 afs: Lost contact with volume location server 18.181.0.23 in cell sipb.mit.edu
Could be that sipb is having a problem.
I'm going to start a reload in the mean time.
