Lots of users were complaining that the "no games" prohibition was too
little too late. Yesterday I brought it up at ACMG and recommended that
we punt the no games motd for this semester. Overall there was agreement.
I deleted the motd this morning. Sorry you folks didn't hear about it.

Here's another fyi...........

I wish to make a suggestion.

The games prohibition in public clusters is a good idea, but the timing
is inappropriate. The time to prohibit games is during the last two weeks
of class, when the clusters are at their peak usage levels. Right after
the last day of class, cluster usage drops *sharply*. Usage levels during
finals is lower than at any other time except during extended vacations.
If you prohibit games during this time you look silly and risk having your
other announcements treated frivolously or ignored.

Please acknowledge this message so that I know I have sent my suggestion
to the right place. Thank you.

Tim.

Tim-

Your mail responding prohibiting games was referred to me. I couldn't
agree with you more. We had planned to get the message out earlier, but
somehow it slipped through the cracks. We put a message out on Friday
after some complaints about the lack of machines available. Next
semester we will get the word out at the appropriate time. Thank you
for your concern in this matter.
