Chris-
It has been brought to my attention that someone using your Athena
account has been setting up a netrek servers on Athena public
workstations.
Playing games on Athena workstations is allowed only as a lowest
priority, i.e. when there are many available machines not needed for
course work or personal productivity work. Game playing during crunch
times such as the end of the semester is not allowed at all.
Furthermore it is also against the Rules of Use to reconfigure any
public workstation for any reason. Most importantly these actions
interfere with other people's use of the system.
It is MIT policy that Athena accounts are for the personal use of their
owners, and that their owners are responsible for keeping their
passwords secure. If you were unaware that your account was being used
in this way, then the account and your password may have been
compromised. Accounts@mit.edu can help you remedy the situation.
If you were aware that your account was being used in this way, then I
ask that you take steps to see that there are no further incidents of
this type involving your account.
