This afternoon, Brian and I checked (on wslogger) to find all systems
that logged "Lost contact" messages this afternoon, and then we used
'gettime' to check the time on them.
I checked 190 VAXes and 227 DECstations, and except for a few, they all
had time that was pretty close to the actual time. The exceptions (where
gettime reported "Failed to get time from..." were
DECstations:
m37-318-2
nmrlab
w20-575-71
VAX:
M16-011-1
So, systems are still logging these "Lost contact" messages. Hotline, please
let op know if there are specific problems with workstations (that is, I
don't think the logging itself is a problem, or even an indication of one
at this time). I don't understand exactly what problems you're seeing on
workstations, and it would be good for us to understand whether they're
due to recent power problems or the AFS database server updates. As far
as I can tell, the time on the AFS database servers seemed ok after each
one was updated this week. There were some time problems on Hawk and Kite
after the power hit the other day, but those should have only affected
VAXes or RTs on 18.145 qnd 18.146. I'm confused about what has been happening
on the workstations today...whatever it is, at this point the local time
on all the Athena workstations that logged "Lost contact" messages today
seems to be ok, and the time on the AFS servers seems ok.
Sorry this is long...I wanted to get what I know into the 'op' meeting.
