We are planning the following outages for software upgrades during Spring Break
(next week). Please feel free to mail me if you have any questions.
Saturday (3/19):
Scylla (AFS)
Sunday:
Hydra (AFS)
Monday:
Charybdis (AFS)
Neskaya (Zephyr)
Menelaus (Discuss)
Tuesday:
Chimera (AFS)
Clio (Hesiod)
Wednesday:
Maeander (AFS)
Apollo (Hesiod)
Thursday:
Orf (AFS)
Suomi (Hesiod)
Friday:
Prill (AFS)
Neskaya, Arilinn, B11zephyr (All three zephyr servers)
All work will be started ridiculously early in the morning ( 7:30 am )
The Scope of the outages is:
AFS: This should not affect users at all. In the worst case, their
workstations will hang for a short timeout and give them a 'lost contact'
message.
Hesiod: This outages also should be completely transparent.
Zephyr: The outage on Monday will be fairly transparent (zephyr service may
slow down a little, but everything should work. The outage on Friday, however
will be very visible. All 3 servers will be going down simultaneously,
therefore all subscription and location information will be lost. The outage
should not be more than 1/2 hour. Users will need to 'renew' as well as 'zctl
load ; zctl unhide' to receive zephyr messages afterwards.
Discuss: all meetings on menelaus will be inaccessible for the duration. Mail
to archives however will get queued up so no data will be lost. I estimate
that the update should not take more than 45 minutes.
