Actually, I was able to bandage it (Prudential). When I left, it was
working but still having disk problems. What the machine needs is for
the disk to be reformatted, and the software re-installed (or restored
from backup). Having access to neither a backup device nor the
software that would need to be re-installed, I didn't make any further
changes.
It seems likely that even after a reformat and re-install the disk
will need to be replaced. May I suggest someone bring a spare 200+
Meg SCSI drive over to Prudential, get the system back up with the
Norton Utilities emergency disk, initialize the spare drive as a Mac
disk, copy the "Prudential" disk over to the spare, reformat
"Prudential", copy back again, and maybe even make a real backup?
(And maybe update Photoshop, too.)
If I'm around campus and am given access to the necessary hardware and
software, I can deal.
