Rita:

An RT in E52-364 -- E52-364-3 -- will not boot up from its disk. This
problem first appeared after I upgraded its memory to 8 mbytes. It would stick
on self-test 4c. These are the actions that I have taken:

Removed one 4 mbyte board to restore memory to 4 mbytes.
Powered on workstation -- it still hung on 4c.
Restored 4 mbyte board, bringing memory up to 8 mbytes.
Replaced HESDI board to check to see whether disk controller was
        problem.
Powered on workstation -- it still hung on 4c.
                Restored old HESDI board.
Ran diagnostics -- the machine wouldn't read the disks & now
        hangs on 88.
Looking up hardware error 88 in the Problem Determination Guide
gives the Service Request Number 36-780.

Carlton may have an RT that can take the place of this machine.

The serial number for this machine is 26-0009861.

This Rt was reported down by Pam Loplest.

Peter Ralston had taken a look at this station to try and get software onto it.
This is a private cluster and has a keypad code, which I have.

I called a few days ago about an RT in private cluster E52-364 that has
been dead for quite some time. Someone from operations came to look at it
on August 18 and said they would be back. No one has come back. Could
someone come have a look at it? (It's the one with the note on it.)

Also, the disk drive on the left-most vaxstation (when facing them), is
eating disks. When you try to do a dosdir (or write or read) the disk is
from then on unusable. Could you have a look at this too?

The combination is to the room is 5-3-4. Thanks alot.

We have two RTs in cluster E52-364 that have been down for a long long
time. I was told some time ago that we were on the list for parts from dead
RTs etc. Can I get an idea of when we might get at least one of these back
up? We only have 6 workstations total, and the loss of two for all this
time is really presenting a problem. Is it possible to replace these with
others? Is there anything I can do from this end to move the process along
faster? Just wanted to know what the status is and make sure we hadn't been
forgotten.
