i'm just surfacing after a week mostly in bed
and less-on-line than normal, following a week
in mt. auburn from monday afternoon to friday 21 jan.

i was not logged in from monday 17 jan to sometime
during last weekend, maybe even only on monday.

once in a while i have a look at what the system
thinks my last logs look like, and when the logs
rolled by i noticed i has logged in sometime
on friday the 21st in the evening. what gives?

i know that "last" doesn't appear to log anything
with accuracy, but i was not aware it also created
spurious logs. BUT, then i came across x-action
20,737 ref'g to the dialup machine primavera.

so i just had another look at my logs, and ...
no log showing that login by "not-me" for anytime
friday 21 jan. also there were no records for
any activity before thursday of this week, even
tho i've been trying to catch up for days.

so i just logged out and back in on primavera,
but again, no log for friday 21st in the evening
but the usual incomplete regular logs.

i'm about to change my password again, and wondering
if there's a possibility of compromise at about
the date and time 20,737 was posted?

thanks for any ideas or enlightenment
re the true usefulness of "last".
