Hello,
We are unsuccessful in loading Bruce Cole's VS3100 M38
at Woods Hole. Brian belives it may have a NIP server problem.
The error is below.
Can you contact Bruce Cole (508- 508-457-2000 ex 2771)
if the NIP server is the issue.
John

Subject: reloading squteague's hard disk
Attn: John Chase
I received the floppy for squeteague, VAXstaion 3100 M38, this morning.
I tried putting it in the drive and booting. It asked for the system's
hostname and eventually told me that squeteague (128.128.16.221) was an
invalid host name. I tried squeteague, squeteague.mit.edu and
squeteague.whoi.edu but it didn't like any of them. Some of the messaging
follows:
++
interface se0 on with address 18.62.2.74, mask 255.255.0.0, broadcast 18.62.0.0.
default gateway 18.62.0.1
gateway hostname not found, unable to continue
asking nameserver for network address of hostname
checking validity of hostname
hostname entered was invalid
what is the hostname of this machine
++
I think if the system was on the MIT campus things work probably work,
but because it is at WHOI and it is on WHOI's network some of the network
addressing is not right. I have no idea what to do next. My area is in
VAX VMS operations certainly not UNIX.
