bad sun workstation

after using the Sun w20-575-111, with 1 or 2 glitches maybe software or command
related, i logged out, in, out; and then, in logging in,the arrow cursor stuck
on center of screen with the background all that had been made, after typing
password. all was frozen. eventually, the screen did some more (maybe Break key
or pause or such got it unstuck,but it went through some quick windows on black
background , and offered login again. Then (and maybe once just before the
login window) it would say "workstation failed to activate successfully"
whenever I tried to login, with option to continue (gives new login window).
Now (later) i just tried and succeeded; console window showed "/dev/fd/5 can't
open" left over from previous trouble.
NOTE: that station also has a terrible mouse! balky, especially to the right
and upwards.
