I've placed a new toner cartridge in the printer and the smudging problem has
cleared up (big surprise). The pamphlet which comes with cartridge states
that a cartridge lasts for approximately 8000 pages. It also states that
your mileage may vary if you are printing "extensive text and graphics" (what
exactly is "extensive text"). Our problem is not that the cartridge is
running out of toner quickly, our problem is that the cartridge spewing toner
all over the page after only approximately 3000 printed pages.
I guess I should just chalk it up to bad luck, a rash of bad cartridges, or
perhaps the phase of the moon. Just let me know if MIT Supply accepts
rejects and I'll get them replaced.
