I don't know if this is a hardware or software problem. I just tried
logging into M4-035-8 a number of times. The first time it let me log
in, went through the initialization sequence, even opened an xterm then
bam, the console said "bus error" and popped me back to the "hit any key to
start". I tried it again and this time I got some kerberos error (one of
the functions wouldn't work) and it wouldn't even let me log on. So I
rebooted the machine and after waiting 10 mins tried again and it let me
login like the first time but keeps booting me right back to the "Hit
any key to start" message!!!!!! Well now twenty mins are gone and I try
M4-035-10. The same thing happens!! It lets me log in and when it seems
done, boots me back to the "Hit any key..." message. While I'm bitching,
I THEN go to the cluster in bld 11 and while there are open terminals
there are no chairs!! No wonder the faculty want to stay off of Athena!!
