I have received 2 calls this evening, within a 5 minute period regarding the
smell of smoke in the 66-080 cluster. I had responded immediately, and have
also notified P.P. The cluster, and all hardware appeared to be o.k. The odor
was coming from the red exit door in 66-080. Furthur investigation by P.P. and
myself took us to the very bottom of the stairwell at the sub-basement level
where several cigar butts, coke cans, a pillow, and a few more freshly lit
cigar butts were found. Nobody was found, but we are now assumimg that a
homeless person has been living at this location. Down in the sub-basement
at the location of 66-0047 (janitors area) 2 ceiling panels were found open,
and suspect that some homeless people may be living up in the ceiling area.
I have notified Campus Police. With the increasing cold and inclement weather
of the winter months, these types of issues will be on the increase. However,
all these types of complaints, ie. smoke etc.. can not be ignored.
Believe that this case is now closed on our end.
