Did you "init" after each failure before trying again?
Basically the DS3100 tftp() loading has the same problems as the DS5000
install tftp has. There's not much we can do for the DS3100 installs...
we can't improve them as easily as we did the DS5000 installs...

Only large subnets have two (or more) installer addresses. The -2 is not
an "option" but designates to use the second installer address which is
normally 18.<subnet>.1.253 The third installer address would be
18.<subnet>.2.253 I believe that there is only one subnet with more
than 2 installer addresses and that is 18.64 (EECS).

Sorry, as far as I can tell, there's nothing I can do...

I would like have some details. There's only one case where it can fail,
but it should work the second or subsequent try. The case in which it
can fail is if it can't find an installer (which is actually a time out).
Which subnet were you on? I hope that everyone knows that you CAN'T
install on the same subnet as the bootp/tftp server kick-me which is
18.179 I believe (the W20-575a machine room).
I'll be looking into why you can't install on the same subnet... I
have some ideas... (tom: what do you think?)
