Hi. We got a report which sounds like display hardware gone bad on
SAFDIE.MIT.EDU. Here's a copy of the question:

Question:
Vertical lines are appearing randomly over my screens (emacs & xterm). How can I get rid of them?
Machine info:
Processor: DECstation 3100
Display : Color DS3100
Memory : 0xbd2000 user; 0x1000000 (16 M) total

I've asked the user to clarify whether the lines are running through the
whole screen, or just in those two windows (in which case the problem is
probably not hardware related), but it may take her a while to get back
to us since she had already logged out when we came in this morning.
