To: usenet@MIT.EDU, ghudson@MIT.EDU Cc: hotline@MIT.EDU, op@MIT.EDU Date: Tue, 23 Nov 93 18:19:42 EST From: Kimberly Carney <kim@MIT.EDU> It looks like the disk errors that were logged on senator yesterday were mostly soft and medium (?) errors. There were also a few hard errors. From what we can tell all the disk errors were recovered. There haven't been any disk errors logged within the last 23 hrs. I'd keep an eye on things to see if additional errors are logged, and also have a disk ready so that things can be replaced without a lot of effort if the disk does decide to give up the ghost. Matt and I will be dropping off an RZ55, which could be used to replace the /var partition. I suggest backing up, preferably to disk, any data that's on the internal disk. You may want to put the RZ55 online now and transfer the /var partition over to it. If things really go south and you need a RZ25 you can use the disk in ops-tmp-w20. That machine is our server hot-spare, so if you use the disk let us know asap...sending mail to <op> should do the trick. -Kim
