Hello...
I asked olc this question, and they suggested I ask you.
My name is Dominic Sartorio, and I'm the Next House Athena cluster
manager. In response to the fact that we will lose this cluster at the end
of this upcoming semester, we are planning to buy an HP Laserjet 4 printer
(the same one that has appeared in clusters all over campus lately) for
ourselves and hooking it up to Resnet, to be used by Next house residents.
This brings up two questions:
1. Are there any plans afoot to put printers in dorms? If so, when? If
printers are to be put in dorms in the near future, then we obviously won't
bother buying ourselves a printer...
2. Regarding printer quotas... On the old LN03 printers, a machine
designated as a print server would keep track of print quotas and could
restrict who can print on that printer. The new HP's don't have these
servers; instead, they're connected directly to the network. How are quotas
taken care of? Do the printers come with quota support? (i.e. Are there
daemons running on the printer?) Or did Athena have to hack something up?
If so, what?
I appreciate your help. Please send e-mail to dom@athena.
Thanks again,
Dom Sartorio

Yet when I surveyed all that my hands had done, and what I had toiled to
achieve, everything was meaningless, a chasing after the wind; nothing was
gained under the sun.
The fate of the fool will overtake me also. What then do I gain by being
wise?
"Meaningless! Meaningless!" says the Teacher. "Utterly meaningless!
Everything is meaningless!"
