Dear Colleagues,

Please stop by tomorrow and Choose to Reuse! We're expanding the limits!

Prior to the fall of 2014, a lot of the best stuff was chosen by 11:20. So,=
we began to limit the number of items that people could take between 11:00=
-1:00. After 1:00 we lifted the limit. That allowed people who took lunch a=
t noon to get some of the best stuff. Since they are usually done by 12:30,=
we are going to change the choosing time again starting in February. We ho=
pe this will allow us to give away even more stuff!

Change in limit of items
Five items per person from 11:00-12:20
Unlimited from 12:20-1:20
Clean up starts at 1:20 - you can continue to choose until 1:30, but if you=
stay later than that, you'll be asked to help clean up!

Averages
Based on our tracking of people and things, we've calculated the following =
averages.

From October to December 2015

Number of people who donated: 83
Number of items donated: 939

Number of people who took items: 217
Number of items taken: 526

What doesn't get taken?

Items that no one seems to choose are: video tapes, cassette tapes, and old=
academic books. One month we had over 30 cassette tapes that ended up in o=
ur technocycle waste stream. If you need to dispose of these on campus, sub=
mit a request through Atlas. There is no charge for disposal of MIT items.

We also get clothes that are too worn to be chosen; those go into textile r=
ecycling.

Our February Choose to Reuse event this month will also collect bags for a =
Reusable Bag Drive<http://web.mit.edu/facilities/ReusableBagCampaign.pdf>. =
Consider leaving your reusable bag when you drop off your donations this mo=
nth.

As usual, we'll be on the first floor of the Stata Center. Drop off starts =
at 8:00 and the choosing commences at 11:00!

Look forward to seeing you this week! By reducing the volume of what we pro=
duce, we can protect the planet's natural resources.

Reusefully yours,

Ruth
