I have taken over as cluster manager of 3-462. Any questions
about machine configuration should be forwarded to me. I am
currently working on the configuration of the machines. This is
the cause of the console messages reported to hotline (See attached
message below). I am also aware of the root password setting on these
machines. This was the choice of the previous owner.

I have two problems to report with this workstation. The first is
that a user reported through OLC that it was logging lots of messages
to the console. The messages indicate a problem with the serial line
/dev/ttyS0, which apparently is connected to a modem. The second is
that in investigating this complaint, I discovered that the
workstation allows remote access and still has the public root
password. I suspect that this is a privately owned workstation (but
don't know who is responsible), and the workstation owner should be
made aware that it is bad to leave it configured this way.
