On the evening of Wed Aug 25 we will be doing some work in the E40
machine room. The network will be switching from AUI to twisted
pair. In addition we will be installing new computer cabinets
and tables to make better use of much needed space.
In order to do the work we will be taking some equipment out
of service. Not all outages will be noticed, however the
following are expected to be user visible service outages:
- xcluster
- dialups
- olc, owl
- NFS servers Plover and Rodan
- AFS servers Rosemary, Cinnamon, Anise, Cumin
- discuss server Menelaus
- Moira and register
In general each outage will last approximately 30 minutes. Some machines,
for example AFS file servers, will take slightly longer.
To ease any interruption in service that this may cause we will
begin work at approximately 7:00 pm and continue working through
out the night. User visible outages for some of the more critical
services, such as OLC and AFS, will happen after 9:00pm.
