Earlier today an afs bug with Athena Sun workstations was
discovered. Under certain conditions files can be corrupted
resulting in lost data. The problem occurs when appending
to a file that is not in your afs cache.
Members of the development group are aware of the problem and
are working with Transarc (afs vendor) to correct it.
Until the problem is better understood and corrected public
Sun workstations have been shutdown. At the present time
approximately 25 Sun workstations have been deployed.
Users are being informed via idle screen motd and a message
posted on each machine.
If you need further info see the sparc discuss meeting on
menelaus or contact Bill Cattey, the Sun project leader.
