Here's where we are now with themis's flaky unit 3 (an ra90). [For those of
you tuning in late, themis is an AFS server, and one of its disks dropped
offline Friday night around 9pm. It has dropped off and come back 22 times
since then, which is a seriously bad thing. I apologize if this message
is too detailed for some readers, and not detailed enough for others.]
- Kim moved everything that could be moved off themis vicepc
this afternoon (there were hundreds of user volumes)
- I'm moving everything that can be moved off themis vicepd
now (there were hundreds of user volumes)
- I've edited the afs_data files (on moira and under ../service)
so moira won't try to put anything on this disk
- I've renamed the disk.themis.{c,d} volumes to
disk.themis.{c,d}.dontuse
- it looks like there are about a handful of volumes that can't
easily be moved; Kim mentioned the ones on the c partition, and
I don't yet have the list for the d partition. These volumes
are not attachable, so users won't be able to access them until
we fix the volumes, or restore them from tape. We will deal with
these tomorrow.
Mark R: During the interval 10pm Jul 30..11:30pm Jul 31, did moira try to
put anything on themis which failed and needs to be dealt with?
Consultants, hotline: There are probably fewer than a dozen users who won't
be able to access their homedirs as a result of this hardware problem.
The homedir is still on disk, and we hope to get these volumes
accessible again tomorrow.
Kim: There's output from 'vos listvldb' in /afs/athena/service/scratch/anne
which I got this morning before we started moving things.
That's all for now...
