LN03 printer streaking blanks

Hi. I'm nominally responsible for a DEC LN03 printer called 'stowe'
in a private Athena cluster in E25-143/147.
I recently replace the toner, cleaning pad, and collection bottle, and
despite the crisp looking black print, there remains a 1/8 inch wide blank
strip longways across every sheet, a little less than an inch from the
left.
Any ideas about this? Is our printer simply old? (My predecessor in
this position said stowe was in some way "old" because I have to order
toner kit LN03X-AD and maintenance kit LN03X-AX instead of the
"usual". (?) )
