I just finished talking to Scott Rickard. He has been doing some
intensive Matlab computations in an attempt to finish his thesis (he's a
grad student) by August 6th. He said that if anyone had sent him email
he would have abided by their request. I explained about sharing
resources and he said:
        he only does this when the clusters are fairly empty (or in the
case of Barker, just before it closes)
        he has Matlab save on a periodic basis because expects people to
log him out if they need the machine
        he uses the dash screensaver so that people can log him out
        he will be leaving MIT after August 6th.

I explained that the workstations in the public clusters were not
intended to be used for such intense computation. I mentioned the Cray,
but it seemed pointless to tell him to move his work there since he will
be leaving MIT soon. He says he will put a screen saver on that tells
anyone to log him out if they want to use the machine.

==================================

I sent the above message to Greg and we agreed to let him continue as
long as he didn't interfere with others.
