Dear Colleagues,
The annual maintenance on both the Albany Street and West parking garages is scheduled to begin on Monday, June 24 and be completed at the end of August. Both garages will be available for parking throughout construction, but with restrictions. For information on other parking availability on campus, see the Parking Locations page on the Commuter Connections web pages: http://web.mit.edu/facilities/transportation/parking/locations.html.
ALBANY STREET GARAGE
One focus of the construction will be in the four stairwells, which are located in each corner of the building. Activities will include concrete repairs, painting and patching. Access will be maintained to some of the stairwells and signs will be posted indicating which are available.
In addition, there will be work on the roof and drainpipes throughout the building. There will be no parking on the roof during the three to four weeks it will take to waterproof the roof. Due to the nature and location of the construction on the roof and drainpipes, it will be necessary to cordon off some parking spaces in the center of the building. This is to protect individuals and vehicles.
WEST GARAGE
No construction on the roof or basement, but there will be on the other levels. Construction activities will be done in small sections at a time. The work will generate a moderate amount of noise and dust from jackhammering, saw cutting and chipping.
SCHEDULE
The construction is scheduled for Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM from late June to the end of August. The work is weather dependent and may result in some weekend work as necessary.
Drivers are asked to reduce speed while travelling in the garages because they are construction sites and the contractors will be working in various areas within the garages.
Questions about this construction may be directed to Biss Teelucksingh at biss@plant.mit.edu.
Regards,
Ruth
