Subject: w20-575-77 recently reinstalled incorrectly

It appears that someone, over the last few days, brought up this
machine with the system date set to June 24, 1992 (yes, 1992) and
reinstalled it.

/etc/uerf -f /usr/adm/syserr/syserr.w20-575-77.1 gives entries with
the following successive time stamps:

OS EVENT TYPE 300. SYSTEM STARTUP
OCCURRED/LOGGED ON Wed Jun 24 19:36:42 1992 EDT

OS EVENT TYPE 250. ASCII MSG
OCCURRED/LOGGED ON Fri Jun 25 11:57:49 1993 EDT
(3 of these: syncing disks...
               done
               halting.... (transferring to monitor)
)

OS EVENT TYPE 300. SYSTEM STARTUP
OCCURRED/LOGGED ON Wed Jun 24 19:36:42 1992 EDT

OS EVENT TYPE 310. TIME CHANGE
OCCURRED/LOGGED ON Fri Jun 25 19:34:38 1993 EDT

/etc/athena/version has these two lines:
installed on Wed Jun 24 19:20:25 EDT 1992
Athena Workstation (DS5000_100) Version 7.4H Fri Feb 5 15:12:37 EST 1993

One result of this reinstallation is that the X configuration is
incorrect. /etc/athena/login/config is set up to be appropriate for a
DECstation 5000/25, not a DECstation 5000/133 (e.g., the X server is
started without "-class GrayScale", and the font path for
/etc/athena/xlogin contains 75dpi fonts).

Also, the file /etc/athena/xserver.conf is missing, which could
explain why, e.g., /srvd/usr/athena/lib/update/do_update might have
put the machine into this state.

Since there are user-visible differences in the X setup, I would
suggest that logins on this workstation be disallowed for now. In any
case, I have left the machine halted with a note on it, and would
recommend that it be reinstalled correctly.

Matt
