Subject: Trouble loading decstations FYI
Date: Wed, 23 Jun 93 13:47:56 EDT
From: John Chase <jchase@Athena.MIT.EDU>

Lets keep this perspective! I don't want to see a witch hunt
or finger pointing. What HOTLINE needs is a reliable way to
load workstations in the field. The standard answer i have been
hearing has been "keep trying for an hour the network is
busy." I don't have the time to waste and the client needs a
	bit more support.

 6-16-93
	room 9-550, host - safdie

Lou tried unsuccessfully for 2 hours to load safdie the night before.
I tried also. When REPEATED tries failed the next day by me I
physicaly carried the decstation to e40 to put it on a subnet I
knew whould load. Total time to load 1 DecStation by me = 3 hours
TOTAL TIME BY HOTLINE = 5 HOURS.

 6-22-93
	room 48-315 host - gelhar

	Many problems here;
first - I was given the wrong hostname so I was attempting
to load with an invalid subnet #.
second- When I asked op for assistance I was asked to wait
because of a server (discuss) problem. After 1 hour
I discribed the problem and was told it is network
related and "go see ron". With Rons help I got the
correct subnet # BUT IT STILL did not work and
gave the SAME error. Which was a hang getting
			the load numbers (a+b+c).
I finally got Darrin and he determined it to be
			a typo in tftp.
third -	DCNS looked like dummies to the client. I had to
return twice and explain to the client "we are
			working the problem".
TOTAL TIME BY HOTLINE = 2.5 HOURS.
