The following is a known problem... the spooling software has been modified
and is currently in testing. This should be fixed in the next two weeks.

The printers have been set to STOP printing when the toner is low. The
printer will continue if a user presses the continue button on the front
panel.

The reason it doesn't update the status message is part of a known "feature"
of the HP Printers. Since they are network printers, they will "block" all
new connections to the printer (via TCP/IP) to the engine. However, SNMP
commands can be used to query the printer's status. The changes to the
spooling software uses SNMP for HP Printers to gather status messages.

Subject: printers

Re the new HP printers in the student center.

They seem to stop printing if low on toner, which is good I guess.
But they do not tell the user that their job is not going to print.

A zephyr pop, like there is for mail would be helpful.

When you lpq a printer that is run out of toner, it says
printer is ready and printing,

which of course it isn't. Misleading message.
