There is an "art project" which has been installed in the fishbowl
(m11-113). It consists of covering all the windows of the fishbowl with
black cloth. Unfortunately, this also covers up the 'xcluster' monitor.
This "art project" is slated to last a week.
I called and talked to Physical Plant about this. They didn't say much
except that they'd look at it. Gary Dryfoos walked in and talked to the
people as they put up the cloth. They told him that they had received
permission from Naomi, Physical Plant, and Hotline for their project
(they also have a "permission form" in there).
Now, you might argue that this is "art" or that it isn't. That's not my
point.
It looks like it will cause some major inconvenience -- users will not
be able to see the "xcluster" monitor at the front of the fishbowl
(since no one can see in/out) -- and at this time of year, users really
DO need to find out where there are free machines. In addition, no one
can see into either m11-113 or m11-116 at all.
My suggestion would be to either make this of much more limited duration
(which would have bad effects on their grade, I suppose), or to have
them cut out the cloth around the "xcluster" monitor. I would mostly
satisfied with the latter solution, though seeing all this black from
the office is annoying.
